Model Simulation
The GeoSWMM project files, Tutorial_09.gdb have been simulated for a 10-year long continuous rainfall event. The results of the continuous simulation help answer several important questions about the system’s long-term performance:
- Was the target flow rate used to design the detention pond in Tutorial 03 sufficient under real-world continuous rainfall scenario?
- How significant are factors like evaporation, antecedent conditions and available storage influence the system’s behavior?
- How effective is the detention pond in reducing peak discharges and capturing the majority of runoff events within its water quality control volume (WQCV)?
- And finally, how does the long-term rainfall data used in this simulation differ statistically from the design storms used in previous tutorials?
Exploration of the above questions will help gain a deeper understanding of how the drainage system performs over time—and how closely the original design in Tutorial 03 holds up when tested against real, continuous weather patterns. The following section describes simulation result summary.
