Surface Drainage Hydraulics
Conclusion
This Tutorial introduced the use of hydraulic routing in GeoSWMM. It demonstrated how a surface runoff collection system is laid out, how to size the elements of this system, and the effect of routing on the catchment’s outlet hydrograph. Comparisons were made between the runoff peaks and total volume for different design storm events using three routing options as well as with no routing. The key points demonstrated in this Tutorial are:
- The objective of these hydrologic and hydraulic simulations.
- Network description and its elements’ (subcatchments, links, and nodes) characteristics.
- Outline of GeoSWMM model development techniques for the study area.
- Review of necessary model input parameters and simulation options.
- Interpretation and comparison of model output results.
- Outline of options for model file export to EPASWMM.
In the next case study, Tutorial 03, a storage unit will be added to the drainage system developed in this Tutorial to mitigate the effects that urbanization has on receiving streams.
