Description of Study Area

The study area represents a densely developed urban environment characterized by a high percentage of impervious surfaces, resulting in limited infiltration and increased surface runoff. These hydrologic conditions are further compounded by a high groundwater table, which significantly reduces infiltration capacity.

Stormwater in the area is conveyed through a combination of pipe drainage networks and open channels, ultimately discharging into a large lake. The local topography is mostly flat, with multiple surface depressions that increase the risk of localized ponding and urban flooding. Given these conditions, a 2D flood model is essential for accurately capturing overland flow dynamics and evaluating interactions with the stormwater network.
