GeoSWMM 2D Modeling

Working with 2D Objects

Add Visual Objects

There are two ways to add the visual objects in a GeoSWMM 2D project:

  1. Using 2D Tools
  2. Using ArcGIS Pro map Edit section

The drag-and-drop system is available for only GeoSWMM 1D model. Although it is relatively smarter and more efficient in adding object data into a GeoSWMM project, the users need to use 2D modeling tools to add 2D visual objects. In addition to that conventional GIS editing approach is also accessible in adding the objects.

Add Boundary Layer Feature

To add Boundary layer using 2D tool:

Click on Define Boundary Layer tool

Select the “Start” option to draw features and “Import” option to import layers into the boundary layer.

Assign the attribute fields properly, and

Click “OK” to save the features in to the boundary layer. Boundary layer will be saved in the project GDB.

To add boundary layer features using the conventional ArcGIS Pro edit section:

Select the Boundary Layer in the SWMM geodatabase in the ArcGIS Pro map.

Go to Edit to start drawing a new feature. Arc GIS Pro edit option will become active.

Assign the required attributes for the created or edited features.

After feature editing is complete, save and stop editing the layer.

Add Nodes 2D Layer

To add 2D Nodes layer using 2D tool:

Click on Create 2D Nodes tool.

Boundary layer is directly assigned from project geodatabase.

Provide Obstruction layer from ArcGIS Pro map TOC or browse.

Provide DEM layer from ArcGIS Pro map TOC or browse.

Click “Create” to generate 2D nodes feature in the Nodes 2D layer.

To add 2D nodes features using the conventional ArcGIS Pro  edit section:

Select the Nodes 2D Layer in the SWMM geodatabase in the ArcGIS Pro map

Left Click and go to Edit Section and “Start” Editing Now Create or edit the features in the selected layer using the options provided in the ArcGIS Pro Edit Section.

Assign the required attributes for the created or edited features.

After feature editing is complete, save and stop editing the layer.

Add 2D Layers

To add 2D layers using 2D tool:

Click on Create 2D Layers tool

Boundary layer and Nodes 2D layer are directly assigned from project geodatabase

Obstruction layer and DEM layer is directly assigned from Create 2D Nodes tool

Select any option available in “Extract elevation data from”

Click “Create” to generate 2D layer features i.e. Junction 2D, Conduit 2D and Cell 2D

To add 2D layer features using the conventional ArcGIS Pro edit section:

Select the 2D Layers, i.e., Junction 2D, Conduit 2D or Cell 2D in the SWMM geodatabase in the ArcGIS Pro map

Left Click and go to Edit Section and “Start” Editing

Now Create or edit the features in the selected layer using the options provided in the ArcGIS Pro Edit section

Assign the required attributes for the created or edited features

After feature editing is complete, save and stop editing the layer

Add 2D Orifice

To add 2D orifice using 2D tool:

Click on Connect 1D-2D tool

Select “Connect 1D to 2D with Orifice”

Click “Connect” to develop 1D-2D connections using 2D orifice.

To add 2D orifice using the conventional ArcGIS Pro edit section:

Select the Orifice 2D Layer in the SWMM geodatabase in the ArcGIS Pro map

Right Click and choose “Start” Editing

Now Create or edit the features in the selected layer using the options provided in the ArcGIS Pro Edit section

Create the 2D orifice from 1D junction to 2D junction

Assign the required attributes for the created or edited features

After feature editing is complete, save and stop editing the layer

Add 2D Weir

To add 2D weir using 2D tool:

Click on Connect 1D-2D tool

Select “Connect 1D to 2D with Weir”

Click “Connect” to develop 1D-2D connection using 2D weir.

To add 2D weir using the conventional ArcGIS Pro editi section:

Select the Weir 2D Layer in the SWMM geodatabase in the ArcGIS Pro

Left Click and go to Edit Section and “Start” Editing Now Create or edit the features in the selected layer using the options provided in the ArcGIS Pro Edit Section

Create the 2D weir from 1D junction to 2D junction

Assign the required attributes for the created or edited features

After feature editing is complete, save and stop editing the layer.

Edit Object Properties

GeoSWMM enables the user to edit the 2D model object properties in a number of ways. The property editor can be opened in one of the following ways:

Clicking on the (image40) button for a selected 2D object in the SWMM data browser

Double-clicking on a single object name in the SWMM data browser

Double-clicking on the 2D object category (e.g. Junction_2D) in the GeoSWMM Object Panel (to open the grid editor)

Delete Objects

To delete a single object from the GeoSWMM 2D project:

Select the 2D object category in the GeoSWMM Object Panel.

Then select the 2D object name in the SWMM data browser and click on the (image44) button.

Click Ok to confirm delete.

To delete multiple 2D objects together from the GeoSWMM project:

Select the object category in the GeoSWMM Object Panel.

Then select the 2D objects using Ctrl-key or by dragging the names together in the SWMM data browser, and click on the (image45) button.

Click Ok to confirm delete.
